Orbex are looking for AIT Engineer to support the assembly, integration and testing of propulsion, fluid systems and structural components of the Launch Vehicle as well as supporting design, upgrading and maintaining of our test sites/benches and space port.
You will design and commission new test benches, lead testing and assembly campaigns and generally have a multi-faceted role mixing hands-on and theoretical work.
The Position:
You will ideally have an understanding of launch vehicle systems and related technologies, and have experience in supporting test campaigns for hybrid or liquid rocket engines.
Experience and knowledge of process piping engineering and cryogenics would also be desirable.
You will be required to have a general mechanical flair, be willing to be hands-on and ready to work in our outdoor test facility in RAF Kinloss and SaxaVord Spaceport.

The position includes the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Planning and executing propulsion and/or structural launch vehicle tests at component level and as integrated systems (e.g., Engine testing, Stage Tanks and COPVs environmental campaigns and others).
- Handle cryogenic testing campaigns to qualify flight components for launch.
- Test benches and tooling equipment design, development, validation, operation, and maintenance.
- Providing production support, assembly, commissioning, operation, and continuous improvement of new test benches and upgrades to existing test benches.
- Developing and refining test and qualification plans, procedures, risk assessments, and operating manuals, as well as executing them.
- Preparing devices for test in collaboration with other engineers and technicians.
- Analysing test data and preparing/conducting Test Readiness Reviews and Post-Test Reviews.
- Definition of launch vehicle assembly processes, integration procedures and equipment .
- Executing launch vehicle assembly trials and the final launch integration.
- Educational background in mechanical, aerospace, industrial or other relevant engineering discipline.
- Hands on hydraulics, pneumatics and/or cryogenics experience.
- Prior experience with liquid oxygen fluid systems or cryogenic propellants, materials compatibility, and sealing technology.
- Prior experience with process piping engineering, advanced pipeline design, assembly, and commissioning.
- Experience with reading and creating P&IDs.
- Experience with supporting test campaigns such as environmental cryogenic or propulsion hot-fire test campaigns is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a safety-critical environment.
- Experienced with SolidWorks or a similar CAD tool.
- Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Ecosimpro, Amesim) is desirable.
- Knowledge on testing instrumentation is desirable
- Ability to working under pressure and pay attention to safety during test executions
